Guided tours

We are looking for volunteers willing to offer informed guided tours of the estate and Pavilion on request. We have currently have six volunteers sufficiently informed and willing to do this but need more. The Community Association will organise training for any volunteers

If you are interested in becoming a guide or if you would like a guided tour please contact the Community Association using the details below.

Friends of Apollo

The Apollo Pavilion Community Association has no assets and comprises volunteers. If we are to fully support Durham County Council’s endeavours to promote and protect the Pavilion we need to raise funds in our own right. Given the esteem in which Victor Pasmore is held it is proposed to establish a ‘Friends’ to support our endeavours.

For further information go to the Friends page.

In the Shadow of the Pavilion: Photography Project

The Apollo Pavilion Community Association is organising a photography project that is intended to explore the influences and effects of the Apollo Pavilion on its environment by presenting an exhibition of your photographs.

Inviting images of any style, genre and format, we are interested in photographs that challenge stereotypes of The Apollo Pavilion and provide unique insight into its iconic and unique place in the landscape.

The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers, students, schoolchildren, or anyone with a camera or camera-phone.

The Exhibition opens on the 1 June 2010 at The Pavilion Community Centre, Helford Road, Peterlee.

How to participate:

From the 1 April to the 18 June 2010, each person may contribute one un-mounted photograph up to A3 size (297 × 420 cm or 11.7 x 16.5 inc). Photographs should be clearly labelled at the back including full name, title, date, and contact details (phone and/or e-mail address). An explanatory paragraph may also be submitted.

Submissions may be hand-delivered, or sent by post, to: The Pavilion Community Centre, Helford Road, Peterlee. Ten finalists will be chosen from submissions and exhibited for six months at The Pavilion Community Centre, Helford Road, Peterlee.

Entries will only be returned if a self-addressed, pre-stamped envelope is included, and all submitted material will feature on the Apollo Pavilion Community Association website.

The exhibition has been made possible by a grant from Durham County Council. The Association would like to extend the project and offer a series of photography workshops to people in the area and is currently looking for additional funding to support this.
